The welcome reception cocktail on Thursday 15th, 18h45 :
The welcome reception cocktail is offered at the Villeurbane City Hall, in the presence of Dr. Jean-Paul BRET (Mayor of the city) and Dr. Alain BONMARTIN (President of University Lyon 1).
- How to reach the cocktail : (use the workshop Metro ticket !)
1) Take Metro Line D (green color) at LAENNEC and stop at BELLECOUR (in the direction of “Gare de Vaise”).
2) Take Metro Line A (pink color) at BELLECOUR and stop at GRATTE-CIEL (in the direction of “Vaulx-la-soie”).
3) Walk 10 min to Villeurbanne City Hall through the “Gratte-Ciel” Art-Deco district (see the map).
- The history of “The Gratte-Ciel”, 1930’s Art Deco housing complex :
Mayor Lazare Goujon (elected 1924) engaged the city of Villeurbanne in a vast public works initiative. Arguably the most visible heritage of this program is the Gratte-Ciel, a housing complex made up of two Art Deco twin towers and annex smaller buildings for workmen, lining up along the Avenue Henri Barbusse. These structures are the work of architect Môrice Leroux, and one of the most notable Art Deco structures in France.
